Our Catholic Identity

Faith in books

Book week is an opportunity for our students and teachers to celebrate the joy of reading and immerse themselves in the enchanting world of literature. Picture books have the remarkable ability to captivate young minds and convey complex ideas in an accessible manner. There are many picture books available that provide a platform for our students to explore and learn about the values, teachings, and stories that are integral to our faith. These books not only foster a love for reading but also allow our students to develop a stronger connection to their faith in a way that is engaging and enjoyable.

This week, during Christian Meditation, we read a beautifully written and illustrated book titled; “Jesus Played Marbles.” It is about how the young boy, Jesus, breaks down the barriers of prejudice and discrimination towards a young boy suffering from poverty.

Other books that teach elements of our faith include: Dear Pope Francis, The Suitcase- A story about giving, and God is Bigger.

World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation

Tomorrow, we gather as a Catholic School Community to celebrate the  World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation. The day is inspired by Pope Francis'  encyclical Laudato Si’, which calls on "every person living on this planet" to care for our shared Earth.

The theme for 2023 is “Let Justice and Peace Flow”, inspired by the words of the prophet Amos: “Let justice flow on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream.” (Amos 5:24) In his message for the World Day of Prayer 2023, Pope Francis invites us to "the renewal of our relationship with creation so that we no longer see it as an object to be exploited but cherish it instead as a sacred gift from our Creator."

Students will lead a whole school Liturgy during our normal assembly time. Parents, carers and friends are most welcome to attend.
