SCHOOL LEADERSHIP MESSAGE

 PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

I had the tremendous honour of being around the School Production on Wednesday last week for the Tech Rehearsal, and then on Friday and Saturday nights for the performances. I’m sure that all who saw it would agree that it was an amazing night of entertainment.

The show was fully conceptualised and written (both script and music) by two of our staff members – Liesl Reymers and Rosie Handley. These two amazing staff members also spent several weekends constructing the sets as well as countless hours auditioning students and rehearsing with them to get the production ready to go. They were also very well supported by Rhiannen John and Izzy Kennedy for their work with the graphic design and advertising, running everything to do with Front of House for the show, working with the band, and generally jumping in and support wherever possible. A huge congratulations on this accomplishment by all four.

While a tremendous amount of effort went into the production, I have no doubt that equal benefit will have been received as well. We certainly hope that all participants achieved some personal satisfaction from this, and that those in the audience had a great night’s entertainment.

The students who performed in the production, either on-stage, in the band or backstage, however, may have been the biggest beneficiaries of the effort put into this show. As a school we pride ourselves on supporting students to develop a wide range of skills, knowledge and capabilities that will support them in all areas of life. Some incredibly important capabilities such as communication, teamwork and presentation can often only be authentically developed through settings such as this, rather than in the classroom. It also allowed some students to explore areas of passion and interest for them, and there was plenty of evidence throughout the production that some students may go on to make a career out of the skills they had the opportunity to develop through the production.

“Dreaming big” and taking advantage of opportunities that come your way have been some recurring themes that I’ve mentioned to our staff and students this year, and the students and staff involved in the production certainly did this. Thank you to our amazing staff for providing our students with this opportunity, and congratulations to our students who took up the opportunity and developed and demonstrated an incredible range of skills, knowledge, and capabilities along the way.

On another note, our staff are busy completing our Term Three GPA reports at the moment. These will be available next week, and we encourage all parents and students to take the time to consider these carefully. These reports provide valuable feedback from your teachers on how well our students are working in class.
