Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

Thank you for your support for the Sci-tech Science incursion recently that was held during Science Week.

The activities undertaken for each of the two groups was amazing and inspirational for our students.

Book Week was celebrated with a parade by students in costume to describe a favourite book.

Staff also joined in. Across the school, there were so many interesting and creative costumes. Well dome to Ms Tingle who ran the parade and to the families who put a great deal of effort into the costumes.

Recently our P&C approved the buying of Noongar language dictionaries by Sharon Gregory and Noongar language first words dictionaries by Jayden Boundary. These Noongar specific dictionaries will be allocated to classes and the library. Our thanks to the P&C for their kind donation.

After the Ashton Book Fair, with the commission the school received, we were able to add a further 44 books to the library. These complement the kind donation of individual books from many families who bought them on the Open Night. Our appreciation goes out for your support with expanding our library.

Our recent two assemblies one from Room 1 on the World Cup and inclusivity and Room 6 on Book Week were wonderful examples of our students being confident in speaking and performing in front of others. Our thanks to Mr Swan, Mrs Colkin, Mrs Van Halteren and Ms Hewison for their work with the students.

Classes undertook activities last Friday to acknowledge National Anti-Bullying Day. Our Pre-Primary and year one students also participated in a Bunnings activity.

At our recent Board meeting we approved the Voluntary Contributions and book list sheet for 2024, looked at school development dates, and discussed the 2024 school information book and Business plan tracker that will accompany the 2023-2025 Business Plan.

This Plan is now on our website.

Ms Maciel, our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Officer, joined us to talk about her role and work with our families.

Please contact the office if you would like some information on our Board and its role or if you are interested in nominating for one of our vacancies.

Everyone is looking forward to our Athletics carnival that will run on Tuesday (Jump/Throws for the top three in each faction from years 3-6) and Thursday, which is the main carnival. This year between recess and lunch the WACA Cricket Development team will run tabloids on the courts for our younger students. We hope to get a program out early in the week for the Thursday events.

Thank you to our sustainability group parents who provided students with advice on the correct disposal of different forms of rubbish from lunchboxes each day this week. This initiative culminated in the faction captains awarding faction points on Friday.

This activity was followed by an extended lunch time disco for all factions as they had reached the 1500 points goal as part of our ROS points competition.

ROS points are awarded to students who show respect, organisation or safe behaviour. Each week the captains add up the cards and update our faction board. This board was donated by a previous year 6 group in 2020. It is located near the canteen door.
