From the Principal

Dear families

On Monday 21st August we have our whole school photo day. With such a large site this is a really big job and so we thank you in advance for ensuring that your children are here on time so that we can start class photos promptly at 9am.

The excitement is building for Book Week which is in Week 5, Monday 21st August to Friday 25th August. We have organised four days of author and illustrator visits for students from Preschool through to Year 6, to bring books to life in engaging and interactive presentations for students, at no cost to families. Another way as a school we like to bring books to life is through our whole school Book Week Parade which this year will be at 2.15pm on Tuesday 22nd August, which you are warmly invited to attend. We also have a canteen special for Tuesday of Book Week which include a free gift - please see the order form on the canteen page of this newsletter and make sure that you get your orders in by Thursday 17th August (this week!)\. We encourage you to talk to you child about the class theme that they might be working on with their teacher as this is a good support for costumes rather than putting the responsibility on families.

Our focus on Reading continues this term with a Student Free Day on Friday 1st September for staff across the school to analyse NAPLaN and DIBELS data to look at the growth that has resulted from our improvement strategies as well as inform next steps for the rest of the year. This is an important opportunity to look at the impact of our improvement work so far to track and monitor the growth of individual students, We then have a Closure Day on Monday 4th September. This is traditionally an opportunity for our school community to support the Royal Adelaide Show (2-10 September) as a day of local significance.

On the subject of community we would like to say a huge THANK YOU to the Lions Club of the City of Adelaide. They have initiated a project whereby volunteers have put together individual bags of books for children to help them develop their love of reading. So far they have collected age appropriate reading material to put together a bag of books for every child in Reception, Year 1, Year 3 and Year 4. They are currently working on bags of books for children in Year 2,5 and 6 and will deliver those at a later date. Our staff team will work out distribution in the coming days. We hope that children and families take the time to provide some feedback and thanks that we can pass on to share with this dedicated group of volunteers.

We are all very proud of all of our children and students and the growth they are showing day by day. It is a privilege to be part of their learning journey.
