Leadership Report

Dear CPS Community,
As we come to the end of Term 2, I would like to take a moment to thank all the staff, students and families for a rewarding semester of learning and growth.
This week, we had the pleasure of meeting with professional mural artist Ryan Peik, who has been creating specialised artworks across Melbourne for the past 10 years. Ryan is renowned for his stunning landscapes, native flora and fauna, and large-scale murals that celebrate the natural environment.
Following an initial consultation, we identified six brick wall spaces across the school—
Community Hub, Rooms 3, 5, 7, 16 and 18—that have the potential to be transformed through a series of murals inspired by the local flora and fauna of the Craigieburn area. We believe these artworks will significantly enhance the appearance and atmosphere of our school grounds while celebrating our local environment.
The images below showcase two concept designs Ryan has developed, drawing inspiration from Malcolm Creek. Also included is a before-and-after example of a mural Ryan completed at a school in the Dandenong area, demonstrating the incredible impact these artworks can have on a learning environment.
The CPS Facilities and Grounds Committee will meet early next term to continue discussions and consider the proposed designs for approval.
A key feature of this project will be the involvement of our students. Through their Visual Arts classes, CPS children will have the opportunity to respond to the artist in residence and create their own designs, meet with Ryan, and observe the mural-making process as the artworks come to life. This exciting collaboration will provide students with a unique insight into the creative process and foster a strong sense of ownership and pride in their school.
The feature mural at the school's entrance, located at the Community Hub, is planned to be a striking landscape incorporating a majestic wedge-tailed eagle, creating a welcoming and memorable first impression for our school community (not yet designed).
Student reports have been shared with families via Compass on Thursday 25th June. We encourage families to take the time to read and reflect on their child’s report, and to celebrate their achievements.
As previously communicated, our formal reporting of student learning and wellbeing is provided through Semester Reports, this is supported by Student-Led Conferences held in Term 3 (Week 5). Our Student Led Conferences provide an opportunity for students to share their learning achievements and goals with their parents, carers and teachers. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate student progress and to set goals for the semester ahead. Information on how to book your Student-Led Conference will be posted on Compass early in Term 3. I remind all families if you have any concerns about your child’s learning, please make a time to speak with your child’s classroom teacher.
This year NAIDOC Week falls during the school holidays, we would like to acknowledge and celebrate this important occasion. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity to recognise and honour the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We encourage our school community to take time to learn about and reflect on the rich cultures, contributions, and continuing connection to Country of Australia’s First Nations peoples, and to participate in local NAIDOC Week events where possible. We will be celebrating and sharing the work of our students around this important time at our first assembly in Week 1 of Term 3.
Lost Property please don’t forget to check for lost items at the front foyer, we have still many items of clothing that is unclaimed. All unclaimed items will be sent of donation and charity if not collected by end of the school year.
Staffing Update
At the end of Term 2 we will sadly be saying goodbye to one of our international teachers Ms Chantal Mendoza who is returning to Canada. We extend our thanks to Chantal for her contributions to FA & leading the Foundation team this year. We wish her all the best for her future. Due to workforce constraints, we have restructured the Foundation and Grade one classes. Families of these grades have been informed of the restructure.
We will also say farewell to Rinan Bustany our ICT technician. We thank him for his assistance and support and wish him all the best. We have advertised for Rinan’s replacement, this process is underway we will inform community of who will be the successful applicant early Term 3. The funding the Department of Education provided for ICT support is relative to the number of students enrolled in at the school. CPS is allocated funding for 1 day per week ICT support.
Happy and Safe Holidays
As this is the last newsletter published before the end of term, I wish everyone a safe, relaxing and enjoyable break. We look forward to welcoming all students back to school on Monday 13th July.
