Year 8 Careers Workshop
Year 8 recently had the opportunity to engage in a careers workshop run by presenters Lauren and Shayne from the Country University Centre. The one-hour workshop helped to expose students to various career opportunities so they could begin thinking about their interests and career ideas before choosing electives for Year 9. They reflected on skills that are transferable across various careers and discussed multiple career pathways available to them.
Year 10 Careers Workshop
Year 10 students participated in a Careers Workshop designed to help them identify their employable skills and begin to create information they can transfer into a resume or interview scenario. I would like to thank the external presenters from Country University Centre Shayne Miller and Lauren Mather, for facilitating this with our students. We hope the students who interacted with this presentation were able to gain some valuable insight into their employable strengths.
Semester 1 Ag Tech
Our school garden has been buzzing with life this semester as students stepped out of the traditional classroom and into the garden. From mapping out garden plots to tending to young sprouts, the students have designed, grown, and harvested a magnificent patch of fresh vegetables.
The hands-on experience offered a refreshing change of pace, giving everyone a chance to connect with where their food comes from. Here is what some of our budding gardeners had to say about their favorite parts of the class:
"My favorite thing is how I can grow a plant and take care of it." — Ava
"Learning how to grow our plants from seeds and how to make an irrigation system." — Harriet
"Learning in a more hands-on way and being outside instead of inside." — Pippa
"Being outside with plants and not in a classroom." — Mason
"Picking them and eating them!" — Lachlan
Healthy Habits
Partnering for Success
This term, our students have been exploring how small, "atomic" choices build the foundation for long-term wellbeing and academic success. We began by mastering our digital habits through a "One-Hour Buffer" from screens to reclaim focus, before moving on to social habits. Using the metaphor of "good soil," we challenged students to cultivate a supportive, inclusive inner circle—a "Front-Row Mentality"—where friends actively encourage one another and hold each other accountable.
As we navigate the pressure of assessments at the moment, our current focus is on mastering their motivation towards their studies, specifically targeting high-quality bookwork and active study notes. In the final weeks, we will introduce the habit of recovery, teaching students how to use intentional, analog timeouts to properly recharge their brains rather than turning to the digital drain of scrolling. We appreciate your partnership at home as we help students embed these vital systems for a strong, resilient finish to the term.
Congratulations to this fortnight's award recipients.
Term 2 - TAFE Progress
For practical tasks at TAFE, students are working in small groups, each group has their own vehicle and/or engine that they are working on. Each group gave me a quick debrief on their work so far…
Beau, Mason, Mitch, Justin, Tommy: We pulled the engine and transmission out of a Mitsubishi van, while it was on the hoist. Now we are working on pulling the motor apart. The van will go to scrap metal.
Noah, Kristian and Robert: We pulled apart and cleaned an engine; we’re now working on putting it back together.
Clare, Shae, Mia: We’ve pulled apart and cleaned a Toyota Avalon v6 engine. Now we’re putting the pistons back in. The engine wasn’t running because there was a broken camshaft.
Kate and Audrey: We’ve changed the full pump so that the car now runs. Today we will be doing an oil change.
The students were able to show me these different parts of the cars, including the pistons, full pump, and transmission.
