Performing Arts

In Performing Arts this Term, we have been focused on both theatre and film study. In grades 5/6 we started the term watching and analysing Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, looking at various film features such as camera angles, mise-en-scene, themes in the movies and character development. Students then got into groups and have been creating storyboards and scripts before they start shooting their own short films.
In grades 3/4 we did a play analysis on Disney’s Tangled play, with students this week challenged to create their own catchy show tune that would fit in with the themes in Tangled. Wow is all I can say, I was absolutely blown away about by their song writing skills, teamwork and the catchy, rhyming songs they came up with.
This week in grades Prep-2, students finished watching a theatre production of Peter Pan. We stopped at various points of the play to look at characters, emotions and body language and how we can convey how we are feeling. We played games throughout our study to reinforce our understanding of emotions and body language.
