STEM Outreach Builds STEM Literacy and Strengthens Partnership at St Catherine's Primary School Lalor West

As part of St Monica’s College Outreach Program, in Term 4, Monican STEM recently supported St Catherine's Primary School, Lalor West by loaning science equipment to enhance student learning in Physical Science.

This partnership has enabled our feeder primary school students to explore how electrical circuits function in real-life contexts. With access to hands-on resources, students designed and built their own circuits that made something move or work. These practical experiences deepened their curiosity and strengthened their understanding of how science and technology connect to the world around them.

The initiative reflects the College’s commitment to raising STEM literacy among younger learners and building meaningful partnerships with its feeder primary schools. Through shared resources and collaborative learning, students were encouraged to think critically, creatively, and scientifically.

St Catherine’s Primary School values the strong connection with the Monican community and the opportunity to work together in faith and learning. The partnership continues to grow, enriching educational experiences for students across both schools.

We acknowledge the support of Irena Foreman, Science Laboratory Manager; Shayne Esmaquel, Faculty Leader of Science; and Claudia Palmisano, STEM Educator from St Catherine’s Primary School. Their contributions were instrumental in making this outreach initiative a success.
