The Badano Program

Our Year 7 students explored the theme of careers and future pathways. They examined the idea that success does not follow a single road, and that being open-minded, adaptable, and willing to embrace a growth mindset creates greater opportunities over time. Students began drafting their Career Action Plans, which will continue to evolve as they move through their secondary schooling. This early reflection encourages confidence, purpose, and a positive outlook on their future.

In Year 8, students commenced the Study Skills component of the program, timely preparation as they approach end-of-year assessments. They learned practical strategies such as setting study goals and checkpoints, taking regular breaks, asking for help when needed, eating well, and maintaining healthy sleep routines. Students also revisited the study strategies taught across the year, including flashcards, mind maps, online quiz platforms, and working with a study buddy. These skills aim to reduce stress, promote healthy habits, and empower students to take ownership of their learning.

Our Year 9 cohort engaged in thoughtful discussions about gendered stereotypes and how these can limit potential, shape behaviour, and influence choices. Students also examined the responsible use of AI, linking ethical digital behaviour to personal wellbeing and respectful relationships.

Finally, Year 10 students participated in an incursion with Elephant Ed, focusing on power, relationships, and safety. They explored national statistics, unpacked how gender stereotypes and power imbalances can contribute to harmful behaviours, and learned strategies for safe bystander intervention. The session also highlighted support services available to young people.

Across all year levels, the Badano Program continues to enhance student wellbeing by building self-awareness, promoting respectful decision-making, and equipping students with lifelong skills. Together, these learning experiences continue to strengthen our students’ confidence, resilience, and capacity to make informed, respectful choices, ensuring that their wellbeing remains at the heart of everything we do at St Monica’s College.
