Mr Will
Last Wednesday the 5/6's went to JPC to play a number of different sports against other schools. We put forward one Newcombe team, one netball team, and two soccer teams (1 girls and 1 boys). All students tried their hardest throughout the four or five game they played during the day, demonstrating great determination and sportsmanship. The girls' ended the day winning the premiership, well done girls!!

This term we have been looking at Science as part of our inquiry unit. In the last fortnight students have observed experiments and planned some of one themselves. They observed me putting vinegar into a bottle and then bi-carb soda into a balloon, and watched me put the balloon over the top of the bottle and shake the bi-carb into the vinegar. This was meant to make the balloon expand, due to the build up of gas from the bi-carb and vinegar mixing together. However, what actually happened was that the balloon built up with gas so fast that it flew off the top of the bottle and flew around the room.
Students then had to change ONE variable (the bottle size, the amount of vinegar or bi-carb soda, the balloon and so on), to see what the difference it would make.

Over the last couple weeks whilst our grade 5's have been practising for their leadership speeches, the grade 6's have been spending time with their prep buddies, doing a range of activities. In the first week, we made hats to celebrate Adam Wallace and Hatman!. Last week, they made photo frames together and had their photos taken, these will be handed out soon to take home. Then today, we made ooblek, which is both a solid and liquid , depending on the amount of force applied to the substance.

We have so many incredible things to look forward to in the Grade 5/6 space this term that I thought I would add them here each fortnight to help you keep track!
