At Frankston High School we prioritise wellbeing for everyone, every day!
Be Prepared for the Under 16 Social Media ‘Ban’
For a lot of students under the ager of 16, social media has become a cornerstone of their day to day lives. Parent/carers will note that, rightly or wrongly, apps like snapchat and Instagram are the preferred avenues to communicate with friends, catch up on interests and even process current events.
December 10th will see the Government put in place legislation that it will be against the law for social media companies to allow people under the age of 16 to sign up for new social media accounts or continue their social media use. At present, this will impact:
- TikTok,
- Snapchat,
- YouTube,
- Reddit,
- Instagram,
- Facebook,
- Threads,
- Kick and
- X.
We imagine that, for many reasons, this will likely have an impact on your young person as they navigate being unable to access something that has been so readily available.
Over the coming weeks, wellbeing/someone will be putting up posts that will support parents/carers to navigate law before or after it comes into place.
In the meantime, we encourage you to access to the following links for further information:

The 2025 "16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence" will take place from November 25 to December 10, 2025. This annual international campaign starts on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and concludes on Human Rights Day.
This year, Victoria's theme is "A violence free Victoria. It all starts with respect".
The aim is to raise awareness and call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls by raising awareness, inspire action, and promotes change to end all forms of gender-based violence, which is a violation of human rights. It serves as a crucial time to unite individuals, communities, and governments to shine a spotlight on the issue and its impact on individuals' physical, psychological, and social well-being. Have a look through this website to find out ways we can help. https://www.respectvictoria.vic.gov.au/campaigns/toolkit/16-days-of-activism
