Reckless= heedless of danger or the consequences of one's actions; rash or impetuous.

Tyrant= a cruel and oppressive ruler

Compromise =  is a settlement of a disagreement in which each side gives up something to reach an agreement that is acceptable to both parties

➗ Maths: Cartesian Planes and Percentages

This week, students have a continued focus on Cartesian planes. Students revised the quadrants as well as how to write coordinates correctly. Students were asked to read coordinates as well as plot on a Cartesian plane. Students are creating geometric shapes with transformations.

This week we have focused on percentages, as well as converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages.

📊 Mathematics Preview:

Students will continue looking at financial maths, as well as estimating with percentages, decimals, and fractions. Students will also continue looking at Cartesian planes and maths terms such as 'reflect', 'transform', 'translate', and 'rotate'.  Grade 6 students will be completing an investigation unit on tesselations, designing and creating their very own.

🌍 Knowledge Rich - Immigration and International Interaction🌏

Students have completed the Knowledge Rich unit over the last month, deepening their understanding of immigration around the world and in Australia. Students have been building a timeline in their book, tracking important dates, including the increase in population of Australia during the Gold Rush. We discussed the racism that occurred during this time, as well as the 'White Australia Policy'.  Students have been asked to answer big questions such as 'What was migration like after WWII?' and 'How is migrating and seeking refuge different?"

Kensuke's Kingdom- Novel study

Kensuke's Kingdom is about Michael, an eleven-year-old boy whose parents decide to sail around the world after his dad loses his job. They buy a yacht called Peggy Sue and set off on an incredible adventure together. At first, everything feels exciting—Michael learns to sail, sees amazing places, and even gets a dog named Stella Artois. But life at sea isn’t always easy. The long days and isolation start to wear on them, and Michael sometimes misses home. One night, during a storm while his parents are below deck, Michael falls overboard with Stella. When he wakes up, he finds himself washed up on a strange tropical island. He’s scared, hungry, and alone, but soon realises someone mysterious is watching him. This marks the beginning of his survival journey—and the secret friendship that will change his life forever.

The students are reading and looking at direct and indirect speech used in this novel.
