📖 Literacy
Word Work
In Word Work, Prep students have been learning to encode and decode the sounds ‘oi’, ‘oy’, ‘ar’ and ‘igh’. Students have enjoyed exploring words containing these sounds through reading activities and writing on their mini whiteboards.
Reading
In Reading, students have been exploring the much-loved text The Gruffalo. Together, they have been learning about story structure by identifying the characters, setting, problem and solution. Working with a partner, students have responded to both inferential and literal questions and shared their ideas and understandings with the whole class.
Writing
In Writing, our Prep students have been creating their own responses to The Gruffalo. Using picture prompts, they have shared their opinions about the story and explained their thinking in writing. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they express their ideas in creative and meaningful ways.
Preview:Prep students will next explore the picture book My Two Blankets.
➗ Maths
This fortnight, students have been exploring ordinal numbers, learning how to identify and use terms such as first, second, third in the correct sequence. Students have also been learning to count by tens and represent groups of ten using filled tens-frames and by bundling icy pole sticks. These activities help students visualise “ten” as a unit and deepen their understanding of place value.
Preview:We will continue learning about counting and place value over the next few weeks.
Wellbeing
This fortnight, students developed an understanding that both girls and boys can choose to do or be anything they wish, regardless of gender—whether that’s in sports, careers or any other area of the community. They also explored the idea that everyone, no matter their gender, can be both strong and gentle. Students discussed the importance of expressing emotions and showing kindness towards others.
Preview:Next fortnight, students will be exploring fair and friendly play.
Pyjama Day
Preps enjoyed a cozy pyjama day at school last Friday 31st of October. With the rainy weather and wet day timetable, we stayed inside at play and enjoyed playing together.
