On Monday staff undertook Professional Development on Inclusive Classroom Education, with a particular focus on Dyslexia and Dyscalculia. The combination of the Pre-work and content on the day provided staff with a clear insight into what both Dyslexia and Dyscalculia are, what it feels like to have either, or what things these students lack. We looked at the benefits of teaching students to read using Systematic Synthetic Phonics, something our school has been doing for some years now, and explored other challenges these students may have, along with students needing to master The Big Six.
We also delved into the stages of the Individual Education Plan. Looking at relevant Assessment tools, what to do in the planning stage, and the importance of both the teaching and reflection stage.
A very worthwhile day of learning.
