Saturday Sport – Uniform Reminder
A reminder to all students and families that BMGS sports uniform must be worn when travelling to and from sporting events, as well as at the venue. This expectation applies to both home and away games.
Unfortunately, last week saw a number of students—particularly some of our basketball players—travelling in incorrect gear. Please note that any non-BMGS items worn to sport in future will be confiscated and returned at the end of term.
We ask that parents assist by ensuring their child is wearing the correct BMGS sports uniform each Saturday, as well as during training sessions throughout the week.
Thank you for your ongoing support in maintaining the high standards of our school community.
Congratulations
Mountain Biking
Oliver and Lucas Rutherford recently competed in at the Sea Otter Australian School Championships. A huge event and the first time in Australia.
Day 1 was the Sea Otter Australia School Championships (enduro). Oliver and Lucas both placed 1st for their divisions (Yr 11/12 and Yr 7/8). An amazing achievement considering there were close to 300 mountain bike riders across 105 schools registered for this event!
The boys also won the Secondary Schools Award - first place. Given it was only Oliver and Lucas representing BMGS, they were the underdogs however won based on overall points.
The remainder of the days saw Oliver and Lucas compete in the XC marathon event - both placing 1st for their age divisions (U19 and U15). The Fox Superflow (enduro) where they both placed 2nd for their age divisions. This was a very successful (and tiring!) long weekend of mountain bike racing.
Congratulations to both Oliver and Lucas on these outstanding achievements

Basketball Reports - Round 1
Boys
13’s
The U13s started their season with an away game against St Paul’s Grammar, falling 43–36 in a tough opening game. Despite the result, the team showed great energy, hustle and teamwork throughout. With plenty of positives to build on, especially with defensive effort and communication, they have built a strong foundation for the season ahead.
Girls
Firsts
The Girls Firsts started the year strongly with a 22-20 overtime win against Oxley. Trailing by 5 points with five minutes to go the girls played outstanding defence to keep the opposition scoreless for the rest of the game. Georgia played excellent defence and made two pressure free throws to take the game to overtime.
Open B
The Seconds have started the year in outstanding form, recording two dominant wins over Oxley (36–6) and Redlands (38–8) – see report below from Ms Haines. Their strong results reflect the hard work put in at training, with the team showing excellent cohesion, energy, and commitment. Every player has contributed to their early success, setting a positive tone for the season ahead.
Round 2
Boys
13’s
Game 2 saw the team host their first home game, in which they produced a remarkable comeback to draw 37–37 with Chevalier after trailing by almost 20 points. The team showed incredible determination and grit with every player contributing to the turnaround. A run of fast breaks and smart transition combined with steals, big rebounds and defensive pressure led to the comeback. A thrilling game.
Girls
Firsts
In their second game of the season, the Firsts Girls faced a strong and skilful Central Coast Grammar side, going down 45–12. Despite the result, there were many positives to take from the match, with Lola and Graciella putting in particularly strong performances.
Open B
We arrived at the courts to find out our opposition was much taller than us and their warm up indicated they seemed to be quite capable. With just the 7 players due to some rep commitments the group set about strategizing our approach. We decided that strong, close contact one on one defence reducing their shots would at least keep their scoring low. The girls were great, followed instructions to keep hands out to reduce early foul trouble, and ensured Redlands did not score in the first half. At the same time we agreed on no long range shots, players would take the ball to the basket and rebound. This worked as we were 20-0 up after 15 minutes and the opposition had no answers. While Redlands made some baskets early in the second half, the girls continued with their strategy and came out winners 50 – 8. There were no real stand out players this week, the girls played like a team, even trying out their screening moves in the second half. A great effort from everyone.
Juniors
Last weekend, the Junior Girls played an away game against CCGS. We knew it would be a challenging match from the start, as CCGS had a tall and well-organised team. With several players unavailable due to other commitments, everyone had to step up and work hard.
Defensively, the girls showed great determination, focusing on keeping their opponents out of the key and contesting every shot. Offensively, there were some excellent passages of play where the ball movement, player cuts, and teamwork led to well-earned baskets.
We will be aiming to build on these positive moments and see more of strong offensive movement in future games. Well done to all the girls for their effort and teamwork throughout the match.
Touch Football Reports - Round 1
Girls
Firsts
The Firsts Girls played at home for Round 1 of the season. They went into the game with a few nerves but as soon as the whistle blew, they were off and proving how well they play together. It was a low-scoring game with only one try scored by Leila after some excellent team work. Unfortunately, SACS got ahead in the second half, with the final result being 2-1. Well done on your first game together this season and welcome to the team, Chloe.
Juniors
Before this game started, the girls had set themselves a goal of winning at least one game this season, and by Round 1 we had done it. The Girls defeated Redlands 7-1. It was a slow game at start, but as the game went on the girls gained more confidence and both their attack and defence reflected this. With an intercept try from Kelsie, and some hard-working defence on the line, the girls were triumphant. Still more to work on but the girls should be proud.
Round 2
Girls
Firsts
Game 1: Seniors Vs Oxley
The first of 2 games this weekend, and it was a ripper. The girls started of flying; with some quick arrows Marley had torn a hole through the defence and scored, giving us an early lead. This was the trend throughout the rest of the game as we won 4-1. The girls were adamant they would score of our set play, but with some tired bodies and good defence from Oxley, they never unfolded as planned. Safe to say the girls learnt a thing or too and came away happy.
Game 2: Seniors Vs Kinross
The second of 2 games this weekend, and it wasn't what he had hoped. Kinross were a very well drilled team with some star players and not so tired players with more energy than us. As it was our second game the Girls were tired and ready to go home, which lead to a less than enthusiastic performance which saw us going home for the day with 1 win and 1 loss. A lot was learnt in our second game.
Juniors
The weather was touch and go on Saturday with rain and cooler temperatures. However, this didn’t dampen the girls’ spirits and even added an element of fun with some sliding around on the grass. We were pretty well matched to the Oxley team this week and the scores reflected that throughout the game. In the end we won 5-4 and were very pleased with the result. Some amazing plays by everyone, but particularly the two tries scored off intercepts by Kelsey. Carlia and Elise also showed their speed by scoring and Matilda was awesome in defence, shutting down many long breaks by running right across the field. These girls look like they’ll grow into a strong side as they play together more often. Well done, and thank you for persevering in the rain.
