Building Study Skills and Healthy Habits
Over the last couple of weeks, all students from Years 7 - 11 have been taking part in a series of three Study Skills Sessions held during our extended Wednesday tutor periods. These sessions have been designed to help students develop effective study habits and a deeper understanding of how they learn best.
Each session has focused on practical strategies for academic success, including study tips, avoiding procrastination, and working effectively in groups. Students have also explored the “forgetting curve” and the science behind why regular review and reflection are so important for long-term learning. In addition, sessions have included advice on how to feed the brain and body through healthy habits, and how mindfulness can support focus and wellbeing during busy study periods.
We would like to sincerely thank the teachers involved for volunteering their time and expertise to lead these sessions. Their willingness to support our students’ learning and wellbeing is greatly appreciated.
Looking ahead, we are excited to build on these sessions next year with additional information sessions and workshops that will continue to strengthen our students’ study skills and understanding of their own learning processes. We will also be launching a dedicated resource page on Schoolbox, featuring study tips, strategies, and guides to support students in developing effective and sustainable learning habits.
Below is a link to the Study Skills Handbook, an excellent online resource that our school subscribes to. You’ll need to use the school’s username and password to log in and access the materials.
Tutor Groups: Game Donations Welcome
As part of our efforts to enhance the tutor experience, we are also introducing new initiatives within tutor groups. We’re inviting our community to contribute by donating any board games, card games, table tennis sets, or similar activities that are no longer being used at home. These will help foster connection, collaboration, and fun within our tutor groups. If you have any of these items at home and are willing to donate them to the school, please give them to Mrs Siorokos or Ms Pearson.
