Intercultural Capability

CURRICULUM FOCUS

This week in Intercultural Capability we are learning to identify what is familiar and what is different in the ways culturally diverse individuals and families live.

VOCABULARY

Culture: beliefs and behaviors that are traditionally practiced by a group of people such as what people eat, how they worship, the language they speak and the art they create.

Diversity: a variety of differences that make us unique such as age, race, gender, religion, language and ethnicity.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Family Traditions Discussion

Have a discussion with your child about their own family's cultural background, history and traditions, such as religious celebrations, special meals or family routines.

Then, compare these with what students have learned about other cultures, such as the Indigenous Australians Dreamtime stories, symbolism and artwork.
