Class 5 culminated a term of hard practice with an amazing Chinese Lion Dance at the spring festival. The whole class was involved in the production and managed the final performance entirely on their own! They did an amazing job —and many were so enthusiastic they dragged their parents to the Lion Heart Association's evening workshops to practice even more.
Learning the lion dance required memorizing many different sequences of movements and ways of transitioning from one sequence to another. The drummers, cymbal players, and lion dancers all had to work together to make the performance flow. They did an amazing job — even in the presence of many over-enthusiastic audience members!
These lessons also tied into our Main Lesson journey as we learned about Ancient China and heard the story of Monkey King: Journey to the West.
Please enjoy some photos from their training sessions!
With all the rains, there have been a profusion of flowers this year — just in time for our second Botany lesson, this time on the Flowering Plants. We've been exploring the flowers in the garden and in the bush and learning about the plants that rose up off the ground to tower above us as trees.
This is also one of the early science lessons in our school, and we're starting to learn about data collection and observations. We've been keeping a "tree journal" following the yearly life of a tree in the school yard, and now we've started several botany experiments running in the classroom. Soon we'll be learning how to draw the data onto a graph to visualize how the plants have grown!
Alongside Botany, we've been exploring the world of poetry. Both hearing famous poems and writing our own! I hope everyone has an enjoyable Term 4!
