Maths News

During our celebrations of STEM Week, the students participated in a range of STEM activities through the use of maths, literature, various games, quizzes, tasks and investigations. There was great engagement and participation from our students.

Build a Bridge

Students had to create a bridge using paper strong enough to hold rocks and pebbles.

Who Sank the Boat?

Students in year 1/2 created boats using foil and investigated how many rocks it could hold until their boat would sink.

The 3/4s investigated how different weather events change the landscape of our world. They made models of tsunamis.

Interactive Maths Displays

Students thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the Maths displays throughout STEM Week.

‘Which is your favourite subject Survey?’

We collected data about which STEM subject was the favourite subject at St. John’s. Technology was the most popular subject… of course!!

Maths and Science were an even second!

Would you rather be a square or a triangle?

The reason why students preferred to be a square was because a square is nice and even. Students who choose a triangle stated that they are unique. If you change the length or angles of the sides it will still be a triangle.

Experience Whitefriars Day

On Wednesday the 16th of October we went on a bus to Whitefriars College in Donvale. Then we went to art and we decorated leaves using a hot glue gun on a plastic bag.

During recess we played at the main oval for about 30 minutes and we went to play basketball and soccer.

Then we went to the science room and they did lots of experiments. After that we went to the main Oval for the last break of the day. Finally we got goodie bags with all different things in it. After this we hopped on the bus to go back to our school and when we got back we played a Kahoot. It was a great day.
