Region Athletics
I was one of the five students who went to Eastern Region Athletics. We all did really well, although we didn’t make it to State we had fun and were amazing in our events.
I got a personal best in shot put and overall, I came 3rd. Finally, a special thanks to Ms Hocking, my dad John, my coach Steve, Mr Perini and all the parents. This school event would not be possible without them supporting me through this journey.
Amali (Year 4)
We all ran, jumped and threw our best and we were all proud of ourselves. I felt really proud that I was representing our school in the 200 metres.
Special thanks to Mr Perini and an extra special thanks to Ms Hocking for organising training sessions and supporting us. I would also like to thank my dad John who supported us and helped us all the way to region. To those who helped on the day a big thank you to you as well.
Jayan (Year 5)
On the 24th October I competed at the Eastern Region Athletics Finals at Doncaster Athletics Track. I qualified for the Triple Jump for the 9/10 age group after coming through the district and division finals in the top two each time. I was so nervous before my event started and I knew the standard was going to be high.
My first jump was a foul because I lost my footing and ran over the line. Whilst this only increased my nerves, I tried to stay positive as I had two more chances. On my second jump I achieved my personal best (PB) of 7.91 metres, and I was so proud of myself. That ended up being my best jump and it placed me third in the competition.
I was super proud of myself when I stood on the podium to receive my medal for coming third place. I would like to thank Ms Hocking for coming along and supporting me and for organising us for this event. I would also like to congratulate all the other competitors who made it to region. I had an amazing time, and I can’t wait for next year.
Marcus (Year 5)
I competed in the shot-put event in the 9/10 age group at the Region Athletics. At first it was cold and windy but luckily, we brought jackets, and the sun come out to make it warmer. There were a lot of people competing in every event, so it was packed. I was really excited about this day coming so I could see the other competitors and the standards that we must meet. Firstly, we got called to the event, checked in and got ready. All the people were skilled, but I tried my hardest and came fourth. In the end I experienced Region Athletics and learned a lot!
Deric (Year 5)
I competed in the 1500 metre race at the Region Athletics. I ended up coming 8th overall out of fourteen competitors. I was very happy with my results and a special thanks to Ms Hocking for supporting us on the day. Also, I just wanted to say good job to Jayan, Amali, Deric and Marcus.
Josh (Year 5 )
Congratulations to Jayan, Amali, Marcus, Deric and Josh for qualifying to compete at the Eastern Metropolitan Region Athletics on Thursday 24 October at the Doncaster Athletics Track. They tried their hardest to achieve a personal best against some challenging competitors. All students proudly represented Essex Heights Primary and Monash Waverley Division.

Division Hot Shots Tennis
20 students represented EHPS and the District at the Monash Waverley Division Hot Shots Tennis finals held on Monday 14 October at Notting Hill/Pinewood Tennis Club in Glen Waverley, in a day of round-robin matches.
Boys’ Hot Shots Tennis
We are two representatives of the Boys’ Hot Shots team, and we competed on the 14th October at Notting Hill Pinewood Tennis Club. It was a lot of tennis as we played seven different schools from the Monash Waverley Division.
Winning six matches and only losing one match to the winners meant we placed second out of eight schools. It was a great experience for all of us. We would like to thank our coach Ms Hocking for supporting and coaching during the long, hot day. Thanks also to our teammates for trying their best and encouraging each other.
Max and Jay (Year 6)
Girls’ Hot Shots Tennis
We competed in the Girls’ Hot Shots team where we had an amazing but tiring day at Notting Hill Pinewood Tennis Club. We played against five other schools. Everyone had the chance to play both singles and doubles. We all gave it our best, the matches were intense but fun. Overall, our team came third and we are really proud how our team handled such a tough day of competition.
We would like to thank Ms Hocking for training us and Ms Steward for supporting us on the day. It was a wonderful experience, and our teammates encouraged each other, throughout the day. Congratulations to everyone who participated and to those who couldn’t play the finals but helped us get there.

On Tuesday 15th October a team of year 6 girls participated in a Volleyball Round Robin final at Maroondah Nets in Heathmont. Overall, in our pool we came second so then we played in the semi finals and won through to the final match. We came Runners Up which was fantastic!

There were some talented teams, most girls played a high-level basketball, so we did very well. We would like to say a huge thank you to Ms Hocking especially because she was coaching and supporting our school sport teams for three days straight.
Thanks to the parents for supporting and driving us to and from the event, and to James and Freya for doing an amazing job coaching us. Unfortunately, Miss Kemp was unable to come but still a big thanks for training us during our lunchtimes and coaching us to our best ability at the district event.
