United Nations Day Celebration

On Thursday, October 24, we proudly celebrated United Nations Day, a wonderful event showcasing the rich cultures represented within our Lakeside College community. With over 60 countries represented, our classrooms were filled with varying arrays of colour. It was inspiring to witness our community embracing our diverse backgrounds, fostering an atmosphere of appreciation and respect.

As we gathered to commemorate this significant day, we reflected on our bible verse from 1 Corinthians, which encourages us to celebrate our unique gifts, talents and qualities. Together, we are building a strong community that encourages, values and supports one another. The presence of our rich cultures in our school not only enriches our educational experiences but also deepens our understanding of the world around us.

Throughout the day, students actively participated in a variety of activities designed to broaden their cultural horizons. All students engaged in African drumming, rejoicing in the captivating rhythmic beats that resonated throughout the school. In classrooms, students explored exciting learning opportunities as they delved into the histories and traditions of various countries worldwide. Our primary students used their United Nations Passports to 'travel' to different nations, allowing them to experience firsthand the importance of global connectivity.

This day beautifully showcased how our diversity strengthens our unity, underscoring our core values of love, service, compassion and excellence. We are grateful to our community for its unwavering support in making this wonderful celebration possible. Together, we continue to nurture a world that values every individual’s contribution, celebrating both our differences and the unique qualities that unite us.

Thank you to everyone who made this event a success. We look forward to celebrating this event again next year.

Year 1 Students Visit Old Gippstown

Our Year 1 students recently enjoyed an exciting visit to Old Gippstown, where they stepped back in time to experience life in the past. They explored an old schoolhouse, learning how classes were taught long ago. The children also churned butter by hand, watched a blacksmith at work and played traditional, old-fashioned games.

Walking through the historic township gave them a glimpse of what early communities looked like. It was a fun and educational day, sparking curiosity about history and helping them appreciate how much life has changed over the years.

What a memorable trip for our young learners!
