Vale Class of 2024

I recently had the pleasure of attending our Year 12 Graduation Ceremony. These ceremonies are a great way to commemorate and celebrate the contribution our students have made to Lakeside College. It is an opportunity for us to acknowledge the fact that so many people work together in educating a person including support staff, teachers, administration staff and of course, parents. The old adage, “It takes a Village to Raise a Child," certainly rings true and our 2024 cohort will leave Lakeside with the qualities and characteristics to serve the world with love, kindness and compassion.  The following is my parting words to the class of 2024.

Good Morning, 

As I stand here today, I am reminded of that bittersweet moment when a parent unfastens the last apron strings, allowing their child to step confidently into the vast, exhilarating unknown of the world. This graduation ceremony is indeed a celebration—a time filled with immense joy—but it is also tinged with a hint of sadness as we acknowledge that you, our remarkable Lakeside College students, are concluding this chapter of your lives.

To the graduating class of 2024, you have been an extraordinary cohort, each of you bringing your unique spark and vibrance to our community. Throughout your journey together, you’ve exemplified acceptance, displaying tolerance and understanding for each other’s diverse talents and personalities. In times of need, you have rallied together, lifting each other up and enriching our lives with the grace and humour that you so effortlessly embody. 

Let us take a moment to reflect on the cherished memories you have created here at Lakeside—those moments of camaraderie and laughter that have woven the fabric of your high school experience. You have not only excelled academically but have also been outstanding role models for the younger students, inspiring them with your dedication and perseverance. 

It would be remiss of me not to acknowledge the exemplary leadership demonstrated by our College Captains and Vice Captains: Jeremy, Tanisha, and Makiah. It has been a true privilege to witness the growth of your leadership abilities. You have created platforms for your peers to express their interests, spearheaded initiatives that fostered community spirit, and organised fundraising events that have made a profound difference in the lives of many. You have represented Lakeside College with such distinction and I could not be prouder of all that you have accomplished. 

Throughout this roller coaster ride that is Year 12, you have supported each other with unwavering grace and dignity. Your teachers—both current and past—have repeatedly remarked on how this graduating class is filled with passionate individuals, committed to becoming the best versions of themselves. 

As you step into this exciting new chapter, remember that your time at Lakeside was not solely about acquiring knowledge; it was about building character. Understand that it is completely natural to feel a blend of excitement and apprehension as you face the uncharted territory ahead. However, the strong foundation you have built here will serve as your compass, guiding you through the challenges and opportunities that await you. The wisdom you've gained—from experiences both monumental and mundane—will be your most valuable asset.

Take a moment to reflect on the connections you’ve formed, the soothing synergy of friendships forged, and the personal growth you’ve achieved. Treasure those unforgettable moments of unity and shared experiences. Carry these memories close to your heart as you venture forth, fully aware that you possess an incredible support network and a reservoir of experience to draw upon.

As I contemplate your future, I am filled with hope. Each of you has the potential to make a positive impact on the world. Through your words, actions, and choices, you can be agents of change, illuminating the path toward a brighter tomorrow. Remember that your journey thus far has equipped you to make a meaningful difference, and life will undoubtedly present both opportunities and challenges along the way.

As you embark on this adventure, let the values you have cultivated here be your guiding light. Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, extend kindness and empathy to those around you, and continue to nurture a spirit of service. You are not merely graduates of Lakeside College; you are trailblazers, ready to leave an indelible mark on the world.

May your journey ahead be shaped by your experiences here, and may your lives reflect the growth and transformation that you have all undergone during these formative years. As you step boldly into the future, carry with you the assurance that you are equipped, empowered, and ready to make a resounding impact.

I would like to leave you with a cherished piece of wisdom from Proverbs 3:6: “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.” May you walk forward with confidence, knowing that you are supported and loved.
