Classroom Happenings

      Foundation & Year 1

In Foundation and Year 1, we have been exploring the exciting world of narrative writing. We began by discussing the essential features of a narrative, learning that every story needs a beginning, middle, and end. In the beginning, we introduce the setting and characters to set the scene; in the middle, a problem arises; and in the end, a solution wraps up the story. Our learning journey started with planning and drafting our own narratives. Each student carefully developed their storyline, working hard to include all the key elements we discussed. Once our stories were planned, we moved on to bring them to life by painting the settings of our narratives. This gave everyone a chance to visualize the story they created.

We have been working with Miss Lockwood in STEM to create stop-motion videos that tell our stories. Using the painted settings and toy characters, we are learning how to animate scenes by taking a series of photos, making small adjustments to show movement. Finally, we will write a final copy of our stories to ensure that the narrative flows well and aligns with our stop-motion videos.  This project has been a fun and engaging way to understand narratives, practice our writing skills, and create multimedia presentations of our stories!

Years 5 & 6

Year 5/6 have been learning to calculate division problems using algorithms. Division is an arithmetic operation that involves grouping objects into equal parts. It is also understood as the inverse operation of multiplication. For example, in multiplication, 3 groups of 6 make 18. Now, if 18 is divided into 3 groups, it gives 6 objects in each group and if it is divided by 6, it gives 3 in each group.

We have been working very hard on the process of working through division algorithms. Feel free to practice at home!
