Classroom Teams News

Foundation News
This week, our Foundation students have participated in a water safety incursion. The Splash's Water Safety Program was held in our classrooms and we learned all about key water safety concepts such as the importance of having adult supervision with us at all times when we are near water, like swimming pools, lakes, beaches, creeks and ponds. We learned how to call for help when we get into trouble and when at the beach we need to swim between the red and yellow flags and listen to the lifeguards.
We learned a song called 'Do the Five' and some actions too! This is to help us remember how to be safe around water. The song goes like this...
'Fence the pool
Shut the gate
Teach your kids to swim! It's great!
Supervise and watch your mate!
And learn how to resuscitate!'
GRADE 1/2 NEWS
HALLOWEEN
Grade 1/2, had a great time on Thursday the 31st of October when the whole school came dressed up in their Halloween Costumes. In the Grade 1/2 classrooms, we had people dressed up as Skeletons, Witches and lots of other things as well. 1/2D created their very own skeleton friend; they gave them names and wrote a story about their skeleton that they got to take home with them.
SCIENCE
In Science this term, Grade 1/2 have been learning about different types of pushes and pulls. This can also be called a force.
A push is like when we push a chair in under our table, and a pull is when you open a door.
We have also been learning about gravity and sinking and floating. Did you know that when you push a ball under water the force of the water under the ball is so big that it pushes the ball up out of the water!
We have also learnt about how gravity and air resistance change the way things fall. Our helicopters with large wings fell slower than the helicopters with small wings. The helicopters were also really cool because they twirled as they fell.
3/4 News:
The 3/4 students have been exploring Captain Cook’s arrival in Australia, the arrival of the First Fleet, and the impact this had on Indigenous people and the country as a whole. They have engaged with a range of texts, including stories of child convicts, and watched videos to help understand just how challenging the journey was! Using this knowledge, the students have crafted historical narratives that have truly impressed us with their creativity and insight. We can’t wait for our budding writers to finish publishing their stories!
The 3/4 students had a spooktacular day on Halloween! They came to school dressed in terrifying costumes that definitely gave us all a scare! The students looked absolutely fantastic, so we decided to have a little parade! After our parade, we had a dance together to some scary music! What a great day!
