Chesterfield Farm Excursion

Miss Sammut

Last Tuesday, the Preps embarked on an exciting adventure to Chesterfield Farm, where they discovered the joys of farm life. It was a day filled with laughter, exploration, and of course, plenty of animals to meet!

Our fantastic tour guide, Ava, led us through a variety of fun experiences. First, we visited the nursery, where we cuddled adorable baby animals and learned about each one’s unique traits. Ava then took us on a thrilling tractor ride around the farm, where we soaked in the beautiful scenery.

One of the highlights was the milk show! We watched in awe as farmers demonstrated how they use a pump to milk the cows. For the brave ones among us, Ava even offered a chance to try milking a cow by hand. It was both exhilarating and educational!

Next up was the dog show featuring Scout, the amazing sheepdog. Scout showcased his skills by rounding up the sheep and performing clever tricks that left us all in awe. The children cheered as Scout obeyed commands with remarkable agility.

After the show, Ava guided us into the 'Discovery Barn.' Here, we encountered fascinating displays, including emu and ostrich eggs, luxurious leather rugs made from cow skin, and various types of wool that we could touch. Ava also shared intriguing facts about deer antlers, such as how deer lose and regrow them annually and how you can estimate their age by counting the spikes. Wow, who knew learning could be so much fun?

As our day was drawing to a close, Ava presented us with a bucket of feed and we rushed off to feed some of the farm's residents. We had a wonderful time feeding the donkey, deer, cows,  horse, camels, ostrich (who cheekily took both the feed and the bag!), sheep, and goats. The animals were delighted, and so were we!

The Preps loved Ava and we said farewell before we hopped on the bus. Prep A and B returned to school full of stories and excitement, eager to write recounts about their amazing day. They worked diligently on their stories and produced some phenomenal writing!

Below, you’ll find some incredible recounts from our talented students, followed by a selection of memorable photos capturing our adventure at Chesterfield Farm.
