Korowa Debating
Student Report: Matilda J
On Wednesday 13 November, the Solway Korowa debating crew went to debate against Korowa Girls School. When we arrived we were taken to a room with food and drinks and a stand for where we would be debating. On arrival we were given the choice of eating fruits, party pies, sausage rolls and cakes as well as drinking fancy fruit infused water. The debate ‘Social Media Should Be Banned For Kids Under The Age Of 16’ went first and our Solway team won! The second debate, ‘Phones Should Be Banned In Schools’ was a tough battle and we unfortunately lost, but one win was enough. The debating was a great experience and has taught us how to debate and will be much appreciated in the future.
From Mrs Watkins: All students in the team of 12 have worked hard in the lead up to the evening, preparing well thought out, articulate and engaging speeches. Congratulations Solway! You represented the school beautifully. We are extremely proud, not only of your impressive public speaking skills, but more importantly the way you supported one another. You continue to share your knowledge of debating with others, including the Year 2’s in their very first debate later this term!

The Big Summer Read
The Big Summer Read is a statewide reading challenge to help combat the reading slump over Summer. With chances to win great prizes (big thanks to the Boroondara sponsor, YMCA) and fun activities, we would love your help in promoting the program to your families before they break for the holidays.
Each of the Boroondara library branches will be full of fun activities throughout December and January with card and craft making stations, games and activities. And a special opportunity to book a reading session with Lucy the Library Cat.
