Explore Northcote High in a brand new way
Year 9 student Oscar Pelham, has been working for the past four months to create an exact replica of Northcote High School in Minecraft. Each aspect of our school has been re-created in fine detail to be explored at your leisure. The classrooms, the gym, the theatre, the tram stop, the playground, the basketball court, the labs, the newly built library, and even Merri Park- it’s all there. The Minecraft world is so accurate that you will be astounded and discover the school in a whole new way.
In addition to exploring the wonders of this world, it also serves to virtually connect students through possible scavenger hunts, games of hide of seek, or races in the park during Connect lessons. Since it is not the real world, but an exact replica, there are endless possibilities to explore that provide students with expanded freedoms.

However, that is not all. Due to the accuracy of this world, it can be used by new students to become familiar with the layout of Northcote High. As we know, the campus can be an overwhelming place and allowing students to explore it at their own will, in the comfort of their own home, greatly benefits their experience.
From conversations with Oscar, it is clear this was no easy task. For example, building the new Hub proved a difficult undertaking. Whilst Oscar could re-visit the other sites and ensure accuracy, he was scared of getting the Hub wrong. Oscar said the angles were “weird” and harder to replicate. Furthermore, he only went to the upper stories of the Hub once to take photos and had to make sure he did a great job. Luckily, everything worked out and the Hub is now one of the highlights of the whole creation.
