Chinese Incursion

Calligraphy incursion with Master Wu

Last Tuesday, the Year 8 Chinese class participated in a calligraphy incursion with the help of a calligraphy master, 91-year-old Master Wu. He first explained the characteristics of Chinese characters and demonstrated how to write the character “永”. We practiced how to write the character with the brush pens and ink that was provided – it was hard to get used to at first, but as we practiced it got easier.

Master Wu also introduced the different forms calligraphy as an art form, showing the semi-cursive and cursive forms of different characters. I enjoyed the incursion overall because it was a new experience, and I had never done calligraphy or used a brush pen before.
