PE and Sports Report
Prep – Grade 2
This term in Physical Education our Junior Students have been preparing for our Junior Athletics Day which were held today. Students have been refining their running, throwing and jumping skills while focusing on a different event each week.
Our junior athletics day saw students participating in 6 event rotations consisting of high jump, hurdles, shot put, long jump, discus and vortex throw. In the afternoon students came together to cheer on each other in the final event the “100m” sprint. It has been really pleasing to see the positive attitude students have had while trying new things and taking on teacher feedback.
If your child has enjoyed learning athletics in class or enjoys our Junior Athletics Carnival it may be worth exploring Lucas Little Athletics as an option. It runs on Friday nights and is currently based at our school oval. There is more information available on the Lucas Little Athletics Facebook page.
Year 3-6
This term in Physical Education our Year 3-6 students have been exploring Striking and Fielding games. Students have learned about the skills and strategies used in cricket and have recently been applying these into the sport of tee-ball. Many students enjoyed the fast-paced PE game called 5 bat cricket which gives students more opportunities to be involved while on the batting team while also reducing the consequences when going out. Students loved getting to bat and field multiple times within a game.
This week we begin our second unit for the term, Net & Wall games, where students will be playing tennis and building their forehand striking skills. If your child is enjoying playing these sports in PE and you are unsure of opportunities within the community to take up these sports, please reach out via seesaw and we will point you in the direction of local clubs. The closest cricket club to school is “Ballarat-Redan Cricket Club” based at Alfredton Recreation Reserve and our school also has a loose partnership with Ballarat Lawn Tennis Club based at Prince of Wales Park off Gillies Street.
Sport:
This term we have had many students represent our school in interschool sport. Alex from 34D represented our school at the Division and Region golf tournaments and did very well. We also had two teams recently compete at the Division Cricket Tournament with our girls’ team placing second in their pool. Finally, we had four students qualify for the Region Athletics Carnival. Well done to Sophie, Kitarah, Ivy and Scarlett for working so hard on their athletics skills and making it so far.
