This term in ICT, our students have been immersed in a variety of engaging activities that enhance their understanding of technology and its applications. Here’s a glimpse into what each year group has been working on:
Prep
Our youngest learners have been having fun creating emoji faces! This hands-on activity has allowed them to explore basic concepts of expression and design while enhancing their digital literacy skills. The joy of creating something that represents their emotions was a delightful experience for them. Additionally, the Prep students have been learning to create and follow sequential algorithms by designing a fun robot dance. By sequencing movements and instructions, they’ve gained a foundational understanding of programming concepts while enjoying a lively and interactive experience.
Years 1 & 2
These enthusiastic learners have been diving into the world of data representation. They’ve created their own visual data displays to represent the weather. By collecting data and turning it into engaging graphs and charts, they’ve developed foundational skills in data analysis and interpretation. Alongside this, they’ve been introduced to the art of touch typing by learning to use the keys of the home row and beyond. This foundational skill will enable them to type efficiently and confidently as they continue their digital journey.
Year 3
Year 3 students are beginning their journey into 3D design! They’ve been exploring the benefits and wide applications of 3D printing, learning how this technology can bring their ideas to life. This exciting introduction not only enhances their creativity but also sparks interest in the world of engineering and design.
Year 4
Year 4 students are expanding their coding skills by exploring key concepts like events, loops, conditions, and variables. They’re applying these concepts to create engaging and fun games, enhancing their problem-solving abilities while fostering collaboration and creativity.
Year 5
Year 5 students are delving into the fascinating world of binary code. They’re learning about binary as a system of on and off, understanding why computers use this language. This knowledge has allowed them to create their own pixelated images using RGB colors, blending art with technology in a meaningful way.
Year 6
Finally, Year 6 students are embarking on an exciting venture into JavaScript, where they’re learning to code apps for devices. This advanced coding experience not only prepares them for future technological challenges but also empowers them to create functional applications that can be used in real-life scenarios.
Overall, it’s been a fantastic term filled with exploration and creativity in Digital Technologies/ICT. We are incredibly proud of our students and their achievements as they navigate the ever-evolving world of technology.
