Classroom learning
This week in Prep!
Literacy
We are writing our own stories at the moment in Prep. Over the term we have been exploring Fairy Tales and other stories by engaging with the characters, settings and problems. Each child has designed their own characters and setting before we began the writing process for our short stories. We completed each part of the story independently and the creative ideas are flowing. We can’t wait to share our stories with our families once we have finished publishing them.
Mathematics
Over the last few weeks we have been working on our number and place value skills to set us up for the beginning of Year 1! We have been using tens frames, MAB blocks, counters and various games to show our understanding of number and place value for numbers up to 20 and beyond. Over the next 2 weeks of school we will continue to use this number knowledge as we investigate money.
End of Year Celebrations
Bunnings Christmas Incursion
To get us into the Christmas spirit we had Bunnings Footscray visit us for a Christmas craft. Each child received the supplies to create their own Christmas stocking, we had to use our weaving skills to attach felt pieces together before we could decorate it.
Buddy Excursion to ACMI
The Prep and Year 6 students ventured into the city to visit ACMI last week. We have loved the opportunity to bond with our buddies over the course of this year so having the chance to celebrate our friendship with each other was absolutely wonderful. Throughout the day we explored ‘The Story of the Moving Image’ exhibition, watched the movie, Paddington 2 and played on the playground at Birrarung Marr before catching the train back to school. Thank you to the wonderful parent helpers who came with us on the day, we couldn’t have done it without you!
