Sustainability

We are thrilled to share some exciting news!

Our school has received a Landcare grant to launch the Nesting Boxes for Biodiversity Project

This initiative aims to enhance local biodiversity by creating essential habitats for Victoria's native bird species right here on our school grounds.

With this project, we’ll be placing nesting boxes strategically throughout the school site, providing safe and suitable nesting sites for birds that have lost natural nesting options. These boxes are designed to mimic the natural tree cavities birds rely on in the wild, offering them shelter and space to breed.

By attracting various bird species, we’re not only supporting these important animals but also strengthening our local ecosystem.

Birds that help with pollination, seed dispersal, and insect control will contribute to a healthier, more balanced environment.

This project will also be a fantastic opportunity for our students to learn about conservation and the impact of biodiversity on the world around us.

We are grateful to Landcare for this grant and look forward to seeing the positive ripple effects of this project throughout our school and community.

The grant includes an incursion which the Sustainability Leaders, the 3/4 and Foundation students attended today from Living with Wildlife, to learn about the local species in our areas.

Galen students have offered to help us with creating the nesting boxes and our Sustainability students along with the 3/4’s will help to assemble and paint the boxes before they are placed in our trees.

The nesting box initiative was an idea developed by Finn Pigram, one of our grade 6 Sustainability Leaders who has a keen interest in wildlife conservation.

Well done Finn!
