High Ability Maths Games Day

On Wednesday, a group of our high ability maths students had the opportunity to participate in a special mathematics day at Coatesville Primary School.  Over the course of the day, the students worked on a range of challenging problems which were presented in the context of highly-engaging games.  They worked with various partners, regularly finding themselves in a group where they didn’t know anyone.  It was great to witness how quickly they were able to engage and collaborate in this setting.

Being presented with tasks which initially seemed impossible, didn’t quite make sense, required a great deal of mental exertion or weren’t able to be solved within the timeframe was the order of the day.  This not only immersed our students in some highly complex mathematics, it forced them to use skills which are required in many other life situations.   We’ve all had experiences (think of the last time you had to set up a complex device or communicate with your gas company) where being patient, adaptable, persistent and resilient were critical to success.

Congratulations to all students who attended this event: you were excellent representatives of CJC, being complimented for the respect you showed and for the way you adapted to each different group situation. What was perhaps most noticeable was your ‘never give up’ attitude.  You did yourselves and our school community proud.

We now look forward to spreading the mathematical learning and key take-aways from this day more widely across our school.

PS A special acknowledgement goes to Mr Borg who not only visited our students, but bravely accepted the challenge to compete in one of the games.

What's happening in Intervention?

French Intervention: Fun Role Play in Action !

Bonjour parents et familles,

During this term, our Year 1 and Year 2 students in the French Intervention Program have been busy putting their language skills into action through engaging role plays! These activities have not only reinforced their vocabulary but have also helped boost their confidence in speaking and expressing themselves in French.

The role plays are designed to be interactive and fun, with students acting out simple scenarios like ordering food at a café, greeting friends at the park, having a family conversation, or going to the bakery. Watching their creativity and enthusiasm unfold has been truly delightful. It’s wonderful to see them embrace the language with such energy and excitement!

Merci for your continued support in fostering a love for language and learning in your child.
