First Win!
Our Year 2 Green netballers enjoyed their first win last Friday night. The team has been working hard and had a breakthrough at training during the week with Hannah popping through their first practice match goal.
I only saw the last few minutes of the 4th quarter on Friday but when I arrived our Goal Keeper and the opposition’s Goal Shooter were both sitting down in the goal circle. I took that as a good sign. Clearly there hadn’t been much action down there! Sure enough, when the final whistle went it was our girls who were celebrating.
It’s been a steep learning curve for our Year 2 teams, and it’s been brilliant to see them learning how to play each position and already developing teamwork. That first training session back in Term 3, mostly focusing on how to deal with an inside out bib, feels like a long time ago!
It turned out to be an emphatic win with Loreto Green doubling the opposition’s score (2 goals to 1). After the game there were smiles, hugs and the Loreto song was belted out with gusto. After the festivities died down, one player asked, “Did we win?” which brought home just why we play the game. Umm… yeah, we won. But just getting to sing the song with their friends and having the post-game lollies was enough. Winning was a bonus.
Let’s hope it’s the first win of many!
Tennis
Well done to Amelia Lampit who picked up her first tennis wins for the term, winning both her singles and doubles matches last Friday. On the court next door, Year 3s Chloe Zhang and Harriet Eblen also picked up impressive wins – much to the surprise of their Year 6 opponents!
Aerobics
Ms Woods, Ms Cobb and coaches Ruby and Zara marshalled an excited group of Year 3-5 students in the Hall Friday morning for their first aerobics session. Some students were returning from our 2024 teams, others have been doing dance/cheer at clubs and some students were brand new to the sport. It was great to see everyone giving it a go!
The coaches took everyone through the warm-up procedures and compulsory moves. If your child missed this morning but would like to give aerobics a try, please contact Ben.Johnswood@loreto.sa.edu.au

Friday Night Lights
Loreto’s Year 3/4 Australian Rules footballers had an exciting opportunity last Friday night, playing a match at half time of the Crows’ AFLW game against North Melbourne.
We arrived at Norwood Parade nice and early so there was plenty of time for face-painting and a kick of the footy in the reserve outside the ground beforehand. We found our seats and the players sat watching the AFLW game patiently (sort of…) for two quarters, cheering on the Crows. Finally, the half time siren sounded! The player’s gate swung open, and we streamed onto the ground.
Playing under lights at The Parade in front of several thousand spectators was unique experience for our young footballers. To say we brought plenty of energy onto the field would be an understatement!
Evie and Georgia popped through some early goals for the Red team to the cheers of the crowd and Charlie share the ball around in midfield. The Black team fought back late in the match with Emily threading one through from the boundary and Claire goaling on the final siren.
Football has been growing at the school and it was great to see our youngest players put their skills on display. The Crows’ AFLW team unfortunately didn’t end up with the 4 points but that did little to wipe the smiles off our faces! Ms Edwards goal umpired with aplomb. A career after football playing beckons!
