Holidays: A Great Time to Immerse in the Magical World of Books!

This term our biggest highlight was the visit from the acclaimed Australian writer Steven Herrick. Known for his novels in verse and realistic, thought-provoking storytelling, Herrick inspired students (and teachers) across years 7 – 10 with insights into his writing process, the importance of storytelling, and the joy of reading. His visit left a lasting impression on students, many of whom checked out his books from our collection afterwards.

In a bid to encourage more reading we launched a Library Loyalty Card program in term 3. For each book borrowed, students got a stamp, and after 6 stamps, they went into the draw at the end of term to win a free book. This program has been a fantastic success, sparking even more interest in our library’s diverse collection. Thank you, avid readers!

While borrowing is paused over the holidays, the local public libraries are open (and usually filled with lots of activities over the holidays) for readers. Students are also able to borrow eBooks and audio books from Sora. See the attached flyer for further information on how to borrow.

Our library wasn’t just a place for borrowing books this year or the many lunchtime activities – it was a space for learning, collaboration, and curiosity. Many classes dropped in for casual lessons. These visits helped the students to connect with the library in new ways.

As we look forward to next year, we’re excited to bring you more author visits, new books, and programs to keep everyone engaged in the joy of reading. Thank you for making this a year to remember in our library.
