Sports and Activities 2024 Wrap-Up

As the year draws to a close, we celebrate a truly remarkable 2024 in the Sports and Activities Department at St Stephens. This year has been one of our biggest yet, with students across all age groups competing in a wide range of sports, including AFL, Basketball, Futsal, Cricket, Track and Field, Cross Country, Touch, and Netball. The breadth of our participation is a testament to the dedication and talent of our students and staff.

Term 4 was a particular highlight, with several exciting milestones achieved. Our Year 7 boys’ and girls’ basketball teams competed in Cairns for their very first tournament. Despite being newcomers, both teams performed exceptionally well, showcasing their determination and skills on the court. They held their own against seasoned competitors and set a strong foundation for future success in basketball.

We were also proud to participate in the new AFL 9s competition, with junior boys’ and girls’ teams representing our College. The teams displayed incredible teamwork and strategy, earning some impressive wins against strong Cairns competitors. Their efforts and sportsmanship were truly commendable and a reflection of the hard work they’ve put in this year.

We would also like to acknowledge the outstanding achievement of Mason, who has been invited to join the 2025 Greenhorns Academy. This program is an invitation only program run by the North Queensland Cowboys NRL pathways. This is a remarkable opportunity for Mason to experience high-level training and development. We wish Mason the very best as he takes on this exciting challenge.

As we reflect on 2024, we’re proud of the incredible variety of sports we’ve embraced, providing our students with opportunities to grow, compete, and excel. Looking ahead to 2025, we’re excited to continue building on this momentum with even more competitions and sporting opportunities on the horizon.

Thank you to everyone who has supported St Stephen’s sport this year. Together, we’ve made 2024 a year to remember. We can’t wait to see what next year brings!

Kind regards,
