NHS Students join Congress event discussing education reform
At the recent VicSRC Congress, four Year 9 students from Northcote High School; Arielle, Elke, Zac and Trixie, joined peers from schools across Victoria to discuss critical issues facing young people such as, inclusion in schools and youth mental health.
The VicSRC Congress, a student-led event that has been running for 19 years, aims to elevate student voices in education reform. Throughout the day, students engaged in Action Team workshops, identifying barriers in education and developing solutions to present to education leaders.
The Northcote High representatives actively contributed to brainstorming ideas on how the education system in Victoria can better support students. Arielle shared her excitement about the experience, highlighting the valuable discussions with other schools. "We spoke to students from other schools, discussing inclusion in schools and youth mental health," she said. The day provided an opportunity to explore diverse student experiences, which led to constructive conversations about how the education system could evolve to benefit students. across the state. The event was sponsored by organizations like The Royal Children’s Hospital and Orygen Digital, underscoring the focus on student wellbeing.
