On September 4 our Athletics team competed in the Regionals at Meadowglen. We had  a team of 26 students competing in various track and field events. Congratulations all of our Athletes who qualified to compete at Regionals.

Wolfgang Curry came home with a swag of medals, coming first in all 6 events he competed in – the100mts, 200mts, 400mts, Long Jump, Triple Jump and the 15 Boys Relay.  This has qualified Wolfgang to go through to State Athletics in all of those events. Also qualified to go to State Aths is Thomas Follis Kirby for the 100 and 200 mts, Ben Hodkinson for Javelin, also our 12 -13 yrs and our 15 Yr  Relay teams. The State Athletics Championships is on October 21. We congratulate all our athletes on making it through to State and wish them well.

Year 7 Basketball

On Monday 9 September, the Northcote High Year 7 girls went to Narrandjeri stadium in Thornbury for Division basketball. Mary Mckie and I were lucky enough to coach the A and B teams and we were really proud of their focus and teamwork. B's had tough, close matches and showed great determination. A’s dominated the other teams in their pool. One game was close, but NHS held on to win. The A girls won against Preston in the finals, and we are looking forward to cheering them on at Regionals! Both teams played so well and were great sports, making the day super fun and enjoyable.

 Saskia Freeman Year 9

The Year 7 boys basketball team had an impressive day on the court, winning two games and losing just one, which qualified them for the 3rd place final. The boys showed great determination, winning the final and securing 3rd place overall. Fynn and Sam were standout players, consistently making key plays throughout the games.

The Boys B team also had a fantastic day, going undefeated and sinking plenty of 3-pointers to dominate their competition.

A massive thank you goes to Wim, Spencer, Charlie, and Ryan for their excellent coaching of both teams and helping lead them to success!

Senior Girls State Soccer

On September 10 our Senior Girls Soccer Team competed in the State Finals at DISC.  Our girls showed talent, teamwork and determination throughout the day.  Our only loss was in our first match where we were defeated by Girton College 3-1.  The girls shook off the disappointment from this loss hoping they may still may it through to the finals, they came out firing in the second and third games against Ballarat HS where we won 5-0, and then defeated Elisabeth Murdoch SC 1-0.  We finished the pool games on a high, but unfortunately this wasn’t enough to qualify us to play off in the final.  The overall winner for the day was Girton College. Congratulations Girls, to get into the State Finals is an amazing achievement. Thank you to Lily Sibillin for helping us out with coaching and running lines.

Year 8 Girls State Soccer

On 11th September the Year 8 girls soccer team continued to the State championships. They beat the first team easily, with a 6-0 win over Colac SC, but our second match against  Keilor Downs it was an unlucky draw 1-1. Sadly for the final game and the decider for the finals,  a thunder storm started at half time, and the competition was ended. But all the girls played amazingly and were a skilled and determined team that had a strong chance of continuing into the finals if possible. Every member of the team played hard and well but a few who really stood out were Asia, Simona, Kitty, Isla, Tepa, Cleo and Saskia.

Year 7 Table Tennis

The girls’ teams played well throughout the day. The A team won by sets in their first matchup, but turned it up and made the finals where they easily beat Lalor to make it through to regionals.

Both the boys A and B played well throughout the day; the A team remained undefeated the whole day. Toby Cook and Oscar Sharp really stood out, not losing a set and out-playing all their opponents with ease, leading their team through to Regionals too.

Asher Bartley and Thomas Bakos

Thank you to Asher and Thomas for all of their help with our Table Tennis teams and coaching on the day.  They will also go along to Regionals to coach the Year 7 teams on October 31.
