Principals Report

Sue Carr

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of St Brendan’s,

It is difficult to believe that we have arrived in Week 10. There is so much to celebrate and be grateful for in our wonderful school. If I search my mind for examples of this, they are everywhere. I find myself thinking about and celebrating:

  • Our wonderful Art Show where our students shone and our amazing community attended in large numbers to connect with each other and to celebrate our students creativity and talent. Thank you to our amazing Art teacher, Mrs Jenny Riddell.
  • Student success and learning growth in English and in Mathematics as our students have worked in such a focused way for the past ten weeks. Congratulations to all students and to their talented and dedicated teachers. Thank you to Mrs Bernie Turner, Mrs Eica Hudson and Mr Justin Barry for their outstanding leadership as our entire school moves in new and exciting directions in the teaching of English and Mathematics.
  • The high level of engagement I see each time I enter the Science/STEM classroom. Thank you Mr Justin Barry for providing such an engaging space for students to inquire and learn.
  • The sporting skills and successes of our students as they have competed in many inter-school and community based competitions over the past ten weeks. AFL, basketball, soccer, dance, cheer, calisthenics and gymnastics are some of the disciplines in which our students have played, competed and shone. Thank you Ms Tess Haddock for the wonderful work you have done engaging all students in enjoying their P.E. sessions.
  • The respect and reverence I see when I join a class for their morning prayer. It is an absolute privilege to listen to the heartfelt prayers of children. Thank you to our teachers for providing a safe and sacred space for this to occur. Thank you Miss Emma Chapple for leading our teachers and for providing magnificent music every time we go to Mass.
  • Book Week activities, our visiting author, Andrea Rowe and the wonderful Book Day parade. So much to celebrate, so much to enjoy. Thank you Mrs Kay Donovan for creating a library program and a beautiful space for our students to read, learn and grow.
  • Our Student Learning Team who support students who may from time to time need additional supports to give their learning a boost. I congratulate these students who have worked really hard to learn new things. I thank the team: Mrs Daniela Ruberto, Ms Amy Brook, Mrs Cassie Black, Mrs Jenny Riddell and Ms Catherine Hare.
  • All our classroom teachers and learning support staff who work tirelessly to engage our students in learning and to support them in developing resilience and in keeping their wellbeing and engagement high. Thank you to our wonderful team.
  • Our wonderful office team; Mrs Wendy Ziino and Mrs Louise Street, who do such a wonderful job of supporting students, their parents and our teachers in so many ways.
  • Our amazing O.H.S.C team for providing quality care for our students both before and after school and during our school holiday program. Thank you Vicki  and team.
  • Our School Advisory Council members: Paul Bryant, Jess Webb, Joe Hertbert, David Goble,Mel Scott, Kirby Brown, Trevor Gilbert and Louise Street for their dedication and commitment to the ongoing improvement, growth and development of our school. Thank you for so generously sharing your time and expertise with Bernie Turner and with me.

I am very proud of and grateful for the many achievements of St Brendan’s School throughout Term Three. I want to sincerely thank the many parents, carers and friends of St Brendan’s who engage with our school on a daily basis making it the vibrant and wonderful place that it is.

I will be absent from school from this Friday 20th September until Monday 14th October. I am travelling to Byron Bay for the holidays. I thank Bernie Turner and the Leadership Team for leading our school on these days.

I wish everyone in our community a safe and happy holiday and I look forward to seeing you all in Week Two of Term Four.

Warmest regards,

Sue Carr
