Seymour Puckapunyal Youth Partnership, 2024 Design Thinking Challenge Graduation Ceremony.
This event celebrated the end of a one week intensive work experience program aimed at fostering students skills such as teamwork, self-confidence, problem solving and critical thinking. Ventia and Central Ranges Local Learning & Employment Network (CRLLEN) partnered with Mindshop Excellence to facilitate students becoming ‘consultants’ challenged to come up with practical and an innovative plan to address Occupational Health and Safety issues associated with the Ventia staff’s Personal Protective Equipment.
Seymour College students Lucas Sainsbury and Hazel Maxwell were nominated by their year level coordinators to participate in the program and were joined by students from other Seymour schools including St Mary’s, Seymour Flexible Learning Centre and GO TAFE’s Vocational Major students.
Seymour College students reported that they enjoyed making new friends and the opportunity to work within a global company and view the variety of Ventia worksites at the Puckapunyal Military Base.

Lyrik Loder is a year 10 student at Seymour College. She has always wanted to pursue a career in plumbing as she has a strong family connection with the industry. The Reece Plumbing stores provides the opportunity for students across Victoria to do a school-based traineeship in Supply Chain Operations (Warehousing). This experience provides a great insight into the plumbing sector and broadens a person’s knowledge of the industry significantly. When Lyrik became aware of this opportunity, she identified the benefits to her long-term plans and submitted her application and resume. Lyrik attended an interview and not long after, a week’s work placement was immediately arranged. Lyrik really enjoyed the experience at the workplace. Her work colleagues were suitably impressed and she was offered the school-based traineeship. Lyrik has now commenced and works each Wednesday and Saturday morning at the Reece store in Kilmore. She will complete her modules as part of this certificate with a blend of online sessions and visits from the training provider to the workplace.
Congratulations Lyrik and good luck.
