Year 5/6 News

Literacy

The grade 5/6's in Reading have been learning about the amazing Maya, Inca and Aztec civilisations.  We've explored the enigma surrounding the mysterious and unexplained disappearance of their society itself,  the deadly and intriguing game of Pok-ta-pok, as well as the significance of the important role that religion played in the Maya's lives.

In Writing students have been finishing up their persuasive texts.  We are paragraphing like champions and using lots of interesting an impactuful langauge devices! So proud of the care and effort that all students have made.

During Spanish class, the students have been creating persuasive posters as part of their inquiry into Cultural Week. In addition, they have been designing pamphlets to convince you to visit Cuba.

Maths

Our Grade 5 and 6 students have been shining in Maths this term! They've been mastering the skills of adding and subtracting fractions, minimizing fractions, and discovering some fantastic shortcuts along the way. In addition, they’ve been participating in FACTS ON FIRE, an exciting challenge designed to improve their automaticity with basic facts. It’s been wonderful to see them explore different strategies and apply their growing knowledge of basic facts to solve problems efficiently. Keep up the great work, mathematicians!
