Hockey at MSC

State Schools Victoria Intermediate Hockey

Our intermediate mixed hockey team played against Orbost Secondary College and Chairo Christian School at GRSC on Thursday, October 17. They impressed Xander and I with their excellent teamwork, energy, and effort! Orbost SC fielded a full, mixed team whereas we were short two players for both matches. Our team played well, especially given our low numbers, and the age of our players (our team consisted of one year 7, 6 year 8 and 2 year 10 students). Chairo CS’s team consisted of eleven year 9 and 10 boys. We were defeated in both matches; however, everyone showed fantastic sportsmanship and determination!

Bailey Pembrey, team captain, was sensational as goalkeeper. The players who play or used to play competitive hockey in the East Gippsland Hockey Association mentored the three students who played their maiden match on Thursday morning. I was overwhelmed by the progress these three made from our first of two training sessions to the second match of the tournament! I commend all players on their commitment to running hard and taking on feedback on what was a hot yet fun day!
