Assistant Principal and Senior School Report
We are now five weeks into term four, and there has been plenty happening within the senior school. Our Year 12 students are currently in the midst of completing their VCE exams, which will continue until Monday 18th of November. The last day of formal classes for Year 12s was Friday 25th October, and they had a fantastic celebration at school, including decorating the senior study centre to resemble a disco. Our formal whole-school assembly consisted of a final Year 12 roll call, speeches from our principal and school captains, and a staff guard of honour through which Year 12 students exited the assembly. There were many tears and mixed emotions – it is a momentous occasion but also one of uncertainty about what is to come, once students leave the place they have come to every day for the past six years. We wish our Year 12s all the best with what is to come, and we know they have the skills and knowledge to succeed in whatever they choose to undertake in life. Maffra Secondary College is proud of all our graduates. We often have ex-students pop back in for a visit, or contact their teachers many years later to update us on what they are doing. It is wonderful seeing our graduates take on the world.
Many of our Year 11 students are in the process of completing SACs for their different subjects and preparing for their upcoming exams. A reminder that students need to organise a medical certificate if they miss one of their SACs due to illness or injury. They are then required to complete the SAC on the next Thursday afternoon at SAC Catchup after school. I also recommend students speaking to their teachers in advance if they know that they will be absent for any of their upcoming SACs for any reason.
Our Year 10s are also busy completing the work requirements for each of their subjects and will be sitting English, Maths & Science exams during the upcoming exam week. Students are actively preparing for these exams in their classes at school, and we also encourage students to revise their learning at home in preparation. All exams will take place at the Maffra Memorial Hall.
Coming up, we have several other events scheduled in the calendar, as detailed below:
Tuesday 19th - Friday 22nd November Year 10 & 11 Exams
