Excursions & Immersions

Year 7 Wanyara Incursion

On Tuesday and Wednesday this week our Year 7 students participated in the Wanyara Incursion. The cultural incursion incorporated interactive sessions run by the Wanyara team and included storytelling sessions, traditional art demonstrations, dance and traditional games, as well as a school run session called 'Come Together'.

The sessions aimed to further develop students understanding of First Nations culture. On Wednesday Noah M, one of our Year 7 students also played the Didgeridoo for the classes and for our guests, and did a wonderful job. Thank you to the Wanyara team who facilitated the day and to all of the Year 7 students who participated so well.

On Tuesday 17 September, classes 7 E, F, H and I all got to participate in the Wanyara Incursion. We all had great fun doing Yarn, learning new dances, learning all about the arts and symbols, playing new PE games and reading a book from a past student about coming together. I'm sure most students' favourite activities of the day were the PE games but in my opinion the Yarn Circle with Marley was definitely the best. She taught us all about how they carved out the different pieces of wood and we even had enough time to learn a fun song that the banana pickers would sing.

On Tuesday 17 September, four Year 7 classes participated in the Wanyara Incursion. We all had a fun day. We did Yarn, learnt a new dance, learnt about arts, playing new PE games and reading a book from past student Isaiah Firebrace, that is all about coming together. I’m sure that everyone would have liked all the activities but the yarn circle with Marley was a hit. She taught us about the carved pieces of wood and what each weapon was used for. We even learnt a song that the islanders would sing while harvesting bananas.

2024 Echuca Moama Youth Expo

Last week, our Year 7, 8, and 9 students had the exciting opportunity to attend the 2024 Echuca Moama Youth Expo, where they engaged with a range of activities and workshops focused on personal development, wellbeing, and future pathways.

The event provided valuable insights into career opportunities, mental health resources, and community involvement.

Our students showed great enthusiasm, participating actively in discussions and making the most of the day.

It was a fantastic experience that inspired and empowered our students to think about their future and their role in the broader community.
