Footy Colours Day - Friday 20th September
Footy Colours Day is a national fundraising event in September where thousands of Aussies come together, proudly sport their team's colours, and raise money so kids don't fight cancer alone. On the last Friday of Term 3, St Joseph's staff and students supported this cause with a gold coin donation to raise much-needed funds to support families and children affected by cancer.
Why do we occasionally ask the students to bring a gold coin?
Did you know that there is a huge body of evidence that support the benefits of charitable giving and socially conscious spending for social and emotional wellbeing?
“People experience more positive brain activation when they give voluntarily. This is caused by the pleasure systems in our brain that are activated when supporting others."
As it turns out, knowing that we acted to improve the life of another is enough to boost our own self esteem and our sense of purpose. Psychologists go as far to say that pro-social spending distracts the giver from their own problems and shifts focus to wider hope and optimism.

Footy Colours Day - Thank you to our Year 5/6s
Students and staff wore their favourite team’s colours and were led by our Year 5/6 students who planned a range of actvities for the Prep to Year 4 students to rotate through and enjoy!
These included Handball Target and Longest Kick competitions and playing Wishing Well kicking games, a Goal-Line Handball Team Game, Footy Islands and Numbers Footy.
Back inside the classroom, they designed their own footy jumper, enjoyed footy-related wordsearches and trivia quizzes, then calming themselves with some mindfulness footy colouring, before satisfying their energy needs with a sausage roll or pie. Thanks to the P & F and Jess Lumsden (our School Community Engagement Leader) for coordinating this special treat for the kids!
St Joseph's School raised $90.90 which we will donate to the Footy Colours Day Fundraising Event. For more information on where to donate go to:
