Transition to warmer weather and Summer School Uniform for Term Four

Next term, as the warmer weather becomes more frequent, it's important that we all protect ourselves from the sun (please see information below).

As well as this, from Monday 21 October all students are required to wear full summer school uniform.

Sun Protection - Being Sun Smart at Sacred Heart Kew

Students are required to wear the school hat when playing outside, whenever UV levels are 3 or higher. We also encourage students to apply sunscreen before they come to school and have it in their bag, so that they can re-apply throughout the day.

Sunscreen

Parents & Carers must ensure that their child provides their own SPF30+ (or higher) broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen. In the absence of a student providing their own SPF30+ (or higher) broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen, staff members will offer a school purchased product to the student. Parents & Carers are reminded that in this instance Sacred Heart School cannot be held responsible for any subsequent reaction that the student may experience as a result of the application of school sunscreen.

We will purchase some sunscreen and have this available in classrooms as per the above so we can all stay Sunsmart at Sacred Heart Kew.

Year 6 Boroondara Youth Leadership Day

On Tuesday 10 September, the Year 6 Leaders, Miss Privitelli and Mrs Gerecke went to Hawthorn Arts Centre to participate in the Boroondara Youth Leadership Day. There were many other schools in attendance. The focus of the day was 'Leadership', in particular:

  • What leaderships means to them?
  • What trait makes a good leader?
  • What leadership skills would they want to improve on?
  • How do they see the leadership event?

All schools were separated into different rooms and worked together to answer questions and solve problems. It was a great day meeting students from other schools and developing leadership skills needed for the future.

As was communicated to families towards the end of last year...

* Time in Lieu (TIL)

The new Catholic Education Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2022 (the Agreement) introduces a formal time in lieu (TIL) process for teachers. The Agreement provides that a principal may require a teacher to undertake work and attend a school activity outside the normal hours of attendance (i.e., in excess of the 38 hours or normal hours for a part-time teacher) and when this occurs, it will attract TIL.

Principals should prepare for the accrual and acquittal of TIL through their annual planning process. The timing of the acquittal of TIL is at the discretion of the principal, having regard to the operational needs of the school and causing the least disruption to the educational program of the school.

Principals may elect to acquit TIL through designating days during the year on which all staff and students are not required to attend school. For 2024, there are opportunities to acquit TIL for the whole school on the following days:

Friday April 26 (day after ANZAC Day);

Monday November 4 (day before Cup Day);

early finishes on the last days of Terms 1, 2 and 3;

end of Term 4 from Wednesday 18 December.

Please note that no primary school students should be dismissed from schools prior to Tuesday 17 December 2024 – this is their earliest finish date
