Wellbeing at TPS

Welcome from Mr Lindsay

Hello, Teesdale Primary School community!

I am so excited to be back at work with our wonderful students. We really are lucky to have students who bring with them a range of life experiences and contribute to the TPS community.

In my role as Learning Specialist-Wellbeing, I work with our teachers, parents/guardians and allied health professionals to ensure that our students are provided an inclusive environment that supports both social/emotional and academic learning.

As our schools grows, so does our Inclusion Team. This team are the adults who support our teachers and students across the day to ensure every student has access to learning. In 2024 we have an Inclusion Team of 15 staff members. This means that every classroom across the school has at least two adults (classroom teacher & Inclusion Team member) present at all times.

In 2024, we’ve also tweaked our eating times. Students are now eating their food after our recess and lunch play times. Research shows that students have a bigger appetite after running around and will consume more of the food sent to school with them if they eat after some time in the yard - hopefully you will see less food coming home in lunchboxes!

Here is an outline of the bell times for 2024.

In previous newsletters I have written about the different options students have over recess/lunch times. For some students, a yard environment with less structure can feel overwhelming. In 2024, we have increased the number of adults who are in the yard to supports students with problem solving, make suggestions about games to play or simply just have a conversation with. We are continuing to offer a passive play (indoor) option for students who would prefer a quieter space over recess/lunch and find many students enjoy the structured play opportunity this provides. In addition to passive play, we will have staff members running a range of games/activities across recess/lunch times that students of all ages are welcome to participate in.

Please make time to discuss the adults in your child’s classroom and how they can support in the classroom and yard as well as discussing the different options available during recess/lunch times.
