Welcome to Italian

Ciao, my name is Gina Michieli and I am so excited to be introducing Italian at Holy Spirit Community School.  I am really looking forward to sharing my passion for all things Italian with the children.   

Not only will the children be learning the Italian language but they will be learning about the geography of Italy, the history, the arts, culture and traditions.  Already the children are exploring the Italian room and are having fun introducing themselves in Italian. This week we have been learning about Carnevale in Italy, which is a huge final celebration to dress up, wear elaborate masks,eat whatever you want and have as much fun as possible before the restrictions and solemnity of Lent begins. 

Learning a language, in this case Italian, will help develop the children's understanding of their own language and culture through a comparison with the language and culture of Italy.  I truly hope to be able to impart a love of languages on the children and look forward to a year of learning and fun with the children.
