About DE
The Department of Education (DE) leads the delivery of education and development services to children, young people and adults, from birth to lifelong learning. We have a key role in shaping the lives of Victorians and the future of the state.
Our Department employs a significant workforce of over 80,000 staff, the vast majority are in the teaching service (76,943). Our non-school based staff are located in the central offices and across our four regions.
The following nine groups support DE’s delivery of lifelong learning to all Victorians:
- People and Executive Services (PES)
- Financial Policy and Information Services (FPIS)
- Policy, Strategy and Performance (PSP)
- Early Childhood Education (ECE)
- School Education Programs and Support (SEPS)
- Higher Education and Skills (HES)
- Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA)
- Schools Workforce
- Schools and Regional Services Group (SRS)
In SRS there are over 988,400 students in 1543 government schools. The delivery of our services is managed by four regions (we have about 20 area offices) offices that provide learning, development, health and wellbeing support and services to children and young people through partnerships with funded early childhood services, DE’s schools, vocational education and training providers and Learn Local organisations.
South Western Region, Victoria (SWVR)
South-Western Victoria Region (SWVR) provides an interface between the Government, the Department’s central office and our schools and service providers, ensuring that learners move seamlessly through our education system and that improved outcomes for all Victorians and the ambitious Education State targets are realised.
We are one of four regions across the state with three divisions and five Areas in locations across south-western Victoria. With around 495 professionals working in our divisions and multi-disciplinary Area teams, we lead a place-based approach to service delivery and are responsible for managing this delivery through our schools and early childhood providers in local communities right across the SWVR.
There are five Areas within SWVR that provide the connection between the Department and the community, providing a comprehensive view of community issues to drive improved health, wellbeing, learning and development outcomes.
