End of Term
Jackson School ends at the normal school time on the last day each term. There may be an end of term function or celebration.
Enrolments
All enrolments enquiries should be directed to the leading teaching overseeing partnerships and transitions, Deborah Munoz. Jackson School is for students with an intellectual disability in the 50 - 70 IQ range. On enrolment, a confidential child information form and required permission forms are completed and filed in the students file in the office area. A list of the children’s individual permission authorities will be on Xuno. Staff must notify the School Office if they are informed of any change of address, transfer, etc. in order that the emergency information held on CASES21 is always accurate.
Environmental Awareness
Please encourage students to be environmentally aware with regard to waste and use materials or school resources wisely. Also, encourage students to think about how they can repurpose or reuse materials after their use instead of just throwing unused materials away. Educate students with regard to the use/waste of utilities i.e. turn off lights, AC, heating when not in use i.e. recess and lunch breaks. Maybe have lights, AC, heater monitors. Educate students about maintenance of school room climate - what could they do to keep a room warm, cool, and then follow these practices. A standard 21 degrees is an ideal classroom thermostat temperature for heaters. Discuss water use and waste - what does this look like in your room? Maths activity? Please ensure that all appliances and electrical equipment are turned off at the end of the school day (except the fridges).
Exit Students Transferring
If a staff member is notified of a student transferring out of Jackson school an electronic transfer is required. Please notify Deborah Munoz of the possible departure date and any other relevant information.
Excursion Guidelines
All staff must follow specific protocols in organising and attending any excursions. Please refer to the Excursion, Incursion and Camps guide for further information and processes.
Before attending an excursion, it's essential to ensure the safety of all students and staff particularly regarding adverse weather conditions and follow through with any alternative arrangements.
Prior to attending the excursion:
Check the Weather Forecast: Review weather conditions for the day of the excursion. Look for any warnings such as storms, extreme heat, rain, or other conditions that could affect the safety or comfort of all staff and students.
Evaluate the Impact: Assess how the weather conditions may impact the excursion. Consider factors such as outdoor activities, transport delays, safety risks, or comfort concerns.
Reschedule, Postpone, or alter plans: If severe weather is expected, it may be necessary to reschedule or postpone the excursion. If weather conditions are less severe but still pose a risk, adjust the plans to focus on indoor activities or change the route to avoid hazardous areas.
Cancel the Excursion: In extreme cases where safety is compromised.
Contact Leadership Team: If you are uncertain about proceeding with the excursion due to weather concerns, contact a member of the Leadership Team, Assistant Principal, or Principal for advice and final approval.
